Sorting out the intangible aspects of ecosystem services
Overview
How can we distinguish and analyze the intangible aspects of the braided causal pathways comprising ecosystem services? We have noted that the braided causal pathways underlying ecosystem services include tangible aspects, such as the harvest of timber, as well as intangible aspects, such as the values associated with changes to human well-being. The intangible aspects are usually associated with human co-production, for example as actors, as perceivers, and as valuers. In this project, we focus on the intangible aspects of these pathways, in particular causal the roles of information (both semantic and semiotic) as a basis for describing and analyzing key dimensions of the pathways.
